Free Shows at the Edinburgh Fringe — Saturday 1 August 2026

Free shows are one of the Fringe's great traditions, and there are far more of them than most first-time visitors expect. ‘Free’ comes in two flavours: genuinely free performances, unticketed with a donations bucket at the end, and ticketed-free shows, where entry costs nothing but a ticket is booked in advance. Much of the free programme runs on dedicated free-circuit operators — most prominently the PBH Free Fringe and the Laughing Horse Free Festival — and the rows below carry a badge where a show is part of one. Donations are how most free performers cover their run, so bring a few pounds or a contactless card.
